Caring For My Cake

CARING FOR MY CAKE

Sweet delights cakes do not like to be refrigerated, as the sweat and colours may run. Keep the cake in the coolest room available (air-conditioning is best) before the event. Refrigerate after the cutting.

If you wish to keep figurines or flowers these must be removed from the cake and stored with anti-moisture crystals in an airtight container.

If you choose to keep the top tier of their wedding cake for their first Anniversary; the best way to store this cake is to follow these steps to keep your cake fresh:

1) Remove the decorations from the cake such as the flowers or the topper. Smaller decorations that are made of icing will be fine.

2) Cover the cake with plastic wrap and make sure that it is airtight.

3) Wrap with at least two layers of aluminium foil.

The more protection you can give the cake, the less likely it is to taste like freezer burn the next year.

4) You can also add to your cake’s protection by placing it in a storage container.

Defrosting the Cake

To defrost your cake for your anniversary, begin the process in your refrigerator. After two hours of defrosting in the refrigerator, remove the cake from the wrapping and allow it to defrost the rest of the way in the refrigerator. Just before you are going to serve the cake, allow the cake to rest at room temperature

The top tier of your wedding cake if you would like to keep it for your first anniversary must be a fruitcake.
